Wikipedia’s account of Punawale describes it as "once an underdeveloped village...primarily inhabited by poor peasants engaged in agriculture and wood carving," with development accelerating from the late 1990s as Pune’s IT sector and the Hinjewadi park expanded. That trajectory is visible today in Kolte Patil’s Life Republic — a large integrated township that has absorbed a meaningful share of Punawale’s new construction, bundling schools, retail and clubhouses into the price rather than leaving buyers to find them separately.
Not every project in Punawale sits inside a township, though — smaller standalone towers from builders like Nexus, Legacy and Tulip continue to launch on individual plots nearby, so the area is really two markets in one: township-led and infill.

What Punawale’s Expressway Access Actually Means
Punawale is marketed heavily on expressway proximity — here is the more precise picture.
Minutes from the expressway, not the same as minutes from Hinjewadi
Punawale sits very close to the Pune-Mumbai Expressway and the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass. That is a different claim from a short commute into Hinjewadi IT Park itself — one source puts that drive at under 35 minutes by road, so treat expressway proximity and IT-park commute time as two separate facts.
No direct metro station yet
The nearest metro access is PCMC Bhavan on the Purple Line, roughly 9 km away. Pune Metro Line 3 (Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar), which would improve access from this side of the corridor, has been repeatedly delayed — do not assume it is fully operational without checking current status.
